야식: Studying Never Tasted So Good!!!

Students fighting for seat vacancy in the library, extended dormitory curfews, crowded coffee shops-these are the typical scenarios during exam week in Korea. But to complete the picture, don't forget the all-important key ingredient to passing the exams- midnight snacks (야식 )





Student life wouldn't be complete without midnight snacks. Pulling out an all-nighter definitely calls for a late night food trip. 



Cramming exam facts is best enjoyed with a box of chicken. Fried chicken is the typical late night snack in Korea. Deep-fried Korean chicken is actually very popular due to the crispier and crunchier characteristic of the skin as a result of double frying, plus it's less greasy too! It is deep-fried chicken smothered in a sticky, spicy red sauce. The Korean technique usually calls for frying the chicken at relatively low temperature and then frying them again at a high temperature. 




The red sauce’s main ingredients typically include Gochujang (Korean red chili pepper paste), ketchup, garlic, and corn syrup. Gochujang and ketchup pair very well – they taste absolutely amazing. Gochujang gives extra bite and depth to the sauce.
